Handling and storing PCBs and moisture sensitive components

Component failures often leave companies seeking solutions in their production procedures; but what of handling and storing items prior to production?

Component reliability can be affected by simple storage oversights as much as poor handling, but if staff are not fully aware then those hidden faults can cause dramatic failures when least wanted. ‘Popcorning’ is just one catastrophe; but electro-static discharge (ESD) damage and poor solder connection due to contaminated surfaces can be as disastrous. All is not lost, however – follow some simple procedures and reduce failures, increase efficiency and save money!
